2. Vanilla Cream Rolls Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure proper rising and color for the rolls.
- Lightly grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, sweetener, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- In another bowl, mix the applesauce, nonfat milk, and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
- Note: If the dough appears too dry after combining, add 1-2 tablespoons of extra nonfat milk to achieve the desired consistency. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
- Lightly flour a surface and knead the dough for 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth texture.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a bowl, beat the fat-free cream cheese, sweetener, vanilla extract, and nonfat milk until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the cream filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border along the edges.
- Carefully roll the dough from one long edge into a log, pinching the seam to seal.
- Slice the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them cut side up in the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the rolls are golden brown on top.
- Allow the rolls to cool for 5-10 minutes before dusting with the sweetener-based powdered sugar.
- Serve wa< rm or at room temperature and enjoy!
